Medford Man Charged With Rape

A report by the Medford Transcript has revealed that a resident of Medford is currently in custody, facing serious allegations involving the rape of a minor. Despite being eligible for release on a $10,000 bail set by the Somerville District Court, the individual remains detained under specific conditions.

Shawn Ziegler, 25, residing at Shapley Avenue in Medford, was apprehended on January 23. He faces grave charges, including two instances of forcible child rape with an additional aggravation due to the age difference, as well as two instances of statutory rape of a child.

The legal ramifications for Ziegler are severe, with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office indicating that the charges for aggravated rape could lead to a life sentence, with a mandatory minimum of 10 years.

Details about the victim are limited due to privacy concerns, but authorities have confirmed that the victim is a young girl who had prior acquaintance with Ziegler.

According to Medford Police Captain Kevin Faller, the arrest stems from allegations of incidents that occurred in the recent six to eight months.

Following his court appearance on January 24, Ziegler was subjected to several bail conditions, including a $10,000 bail. He is mandated to wear a GPS monitoring device, maintain distance from the victim, avoid unsupervised interactions with anyone under 16, relinquish his passport, and remain within Massachusetts.

Despite the bail option, Ziegler has not secured his release and is currently held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Middleton, Massachusetts, as per the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department.

Ziegler is due for his next court appearance for a probable cause hearing in Somerville District Court on February 28.
