Child Rapist Sentenced to Possible 15 Years

A Wilmington, Massachusetts man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for molesting two 6-year-old girls more than a decade ago.

Herbert Dorazio, a father of four from Wilmington, was sentenced on Thursday in Middlesex Superior Court after being found guilty last week of child rape and assault with intent to rape. He was also sentenced to 10 years of probation upon release and ordered to register as a sex offender.

The Boston Herald reports that prosecutors say the 51-year-old Dorazio knew the victims. Prosecutors say Dorazio assaulted the girls between 1996 and 1998 in a close-knit Burlington neighborhood where families often socialized together.

The victims came forward in 2008. Dorazio’s lawyer requested that he be sentenced only to probation, since he had no prior criminal record and was the sole source of support for his ailing wife and children. That request was rejected by the Court.
